The Twenty-Third Annual Strawberry Stampede
10K Run, 5K Run, and 5K Walk is in the books.

 

Sunday, May 24, 2009, Arroyo Grande, California - For the 23rd year the Strawberry Stampede, presented by the Kiwanis Club of Greater Pismo Beach, was run in the Village of Arroyo Grande.

Held in conjunction with the Arroyo Grande Strawberry Festival, The Strawberry Stampede offers three different events for athletes of all ages and abilities. This year there were 513 total participants; 159 participants in the 10K run, 280 in the 5K run, and 74 in the 5K walk.

Jesus Solis of Guadalupe took 1st place in the 10K run with a time of 34:03. The top female 10K spot went to former US Olympian Linda Somers Smith with a time of 35:35.

The overall 5K run went to Hugo Gutierez with a blistering 16:25! Hannah Stevens took the top 5K female position with an impressive time of 19:33.

In the 5K walk division the top spot went to Jodi Ramirez who posted a 37:25. Rick Cota of Tehachapi followed close behind with a time of 38:42.

100% of the funds raised through the Strawberry Stampede are donated back to the local community through the Kiwanis of Greater Pismo Beach, a local service club with a history spanning more than 50 years of actively supporting programs and projects that will give our children the best possible environment in which to learn and grow into outstanding American citizens.

Planning has already begun for the next year’s race - 24th Annual Strawberry Stampede which will be held on Sunday, May 30, 2010. Registration opens on March 15, 2010.
